How to convert PNG to WebP
- 1
Add your PNG files
Drop in screenshots, icons, illustrations, or exports from your design tool.
- 2
Tune quality and size
WebP is lossy, so the quality slider trades detail for file weight. Add a width cap to resize at the same time.
- 3
Download WebP images
Drop them into a CMS, stylesheet, or email — all current browsers render them natively.
Features
Big savings, same look
Screenshots and flat graphics often shrink by 60–90%, which directly improves page speed scores.
Alpha channel preserved
Transparent PNG areas stay transparent, so logos and icons keep their clean edges in WebP.
Quality you control
Start at 92% and lower it while the image still looks right — the results list shows the final size.
Private, local processing
Your browser does the encoding. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by anyone else.
PNG vs WebP
Both support transparency. WebP simply encodes the same picture more efficiently, so it reaches visitors faster while looking the same. The trade-off is that WebP cannot be edited pixel by pixel.
- WebP — smaller, for delivery
- PNG — lossless, for editing and archiving
- Both keep transparency
Where WebP pays off
Any image a browser downloads: hero images, product shots, avatars, screenshots in documentation. One WebP in place of a PNG often removes most of a page’s image weight.
- Websites and landing pages
- CMS uploads and product photos
- Email and documentation images
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PNG to WebP?
Add your PNG files, set quality and an optional maximum width under Advanced settings, then click Convert to WebP. The encoding runs locally in your browser.
How much smaller is WebP than PNG?
For screenshots, icons, and illustrations the saving is often 60–90%. Photographic PNGs shrink less because they already store gradients efficiently. The results list shows the exact size of each file.
Does PNG to WebP keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent regions survive the conversion untouched. Choose a white or black background only when you want the artwork flattened onto a solid colour.
Is WebP supported everywhere?
Every current browser on desktop and mobile renders WebP. Only a few older design apps and some print workflows do not, so keep the original PNG as your master file.
What happens to an animated PNG?
Only the first frame is kept, because the canvas pipeline reads a single still image. For animation work, convert a video to GIF or WebP instead.
Are my PNG files uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding and encoding happen inside your browser tab, so your files stay on your device.
