Everything else — camera make and model, GPS, timestamps, XMP, IPTC, and comments — is removed.

How to remove metadata from an image

  1. 1

    Add your photos

Drop in JPG, PNG, or WebP files — one photo or a whole batch. Your originals stay on your device.

  2. 2

    Strip the hidden data

FreeConvert rewrites the file structure in memory. EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, and comments are cut out while the compressed image data is copied byte for byte.

  3. 3

    Download clean files

Each photo comes back with identical pixels, minus the hidden data. Download them one by one or all as a ZIP.

Features

Truly lossless

Pixels are copied, never re-encoded, so there is no generation loss. Only the metadata bytes disappear.

Location removed

Where the photo was taken, its altitude, camera serial numbers, and timestamps all go — nothing left to trace back to you.

Batch friendly

Clean a whole folder at once: up to 50 images per run, with a ZIP of everything at the end.

Nothing uploaded

The whole operation is local JavaScript on your own CPU. Files never travel anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

No. The compressed image data is copied exactly as it was; only the metadata blocks are deleted. There is no re-encoding, so the photo itself is untouched.

What exactly gets removed?

EXIF (camera, lens, settings, timestamps, GPS), XMP, IPTC, Photoshop blocks, comments, and PNG text chunks. Colour profiles and the rotation tag are kept so the photo still looks right.

Why do my photos have hidden data?

Phones and cameras write it automatically: device make and model, shutter speed, ISO, and often precise GPS coordinates. Editors add author and copyright tags. It travels with the file wherever you post it.

Can I remove metadata from several images at once?

Yes. Add up to 50 JPG, PNG, or WebP files and they are processed one after another. Download each cleaned file, or all of them in a single ZIP.

Does this work with HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Not directly. Convert them to JPG with our HEIC to JPG tool first, then remove the metadata here.
