Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our core foundation. Your files never leave your device, conversions run in local browser memory, and our advertising practices are fully transparent. Last updated September 2026.

1. Local Client-Side Processing (Zero Uploads)

Every conversion, compression, and file manipulation on FreeConvert happens locally inside your web browser on your own hardware using WebAssembly and modern browser APIs. When you select or drag a file into a tool, your browser loads it directly into local memory, processes it, and generates a download link. The file content is never transmitted across the network to our servers or to any third party.

Because there is no upload step, FreeConvert never receives, inspects, or stores your documents, photos, audio, or video files. When you close or reload the browser tab, the file data is permanently purged from memory.

2. Google AdSense & Third-Party Advertising

We partner with third-party advertising networks, including Google AdSense, to display advertisements that keep FreeConvert completely free for all users worldwide. These advertising partners may collect and use information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

Under Google AdSense policies, we explicitly disclose the following:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to FreeConvert and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com/).
  • Users may also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting the Digital Advertising Alliance Consumer Choice tool at https://optout.aboutads.info/ or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page at https://optout.networkadvertising.org/.

3. Cookies and Web Storage

FreeConvert uses minimal local storage and cookies strictly necessary for operation and ad delivery. We store your theme preference (dark or light mode) in your browser’s localStorage so your choice persists across visits. This storage contains no personally identifiable information.

Third-party advertising cookies (such as DoubleClick cookies and Google partner cookies) are placed by ad networks to prevent fraudulent clicks, limit the number of times you see an ad, and deliver relevant advertising. 5. Hosting, CDN & Technical Edge Data

FreeConvert is statically hosted and delivered through Cloudflare’s global content delivery network. When your browser requests web assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WebAssembly binaries), Cloudflare edge servers may record standard technical connection metadata, including your IP address, browser user-agent header, referring URL, and timestamp.

This technical telemetry is processed strictly for DDoS mitigation, bot detection, network reliability, and caching. It is never associated with any file you convert or used for user profiling.

6. Third-Party Code & WebAssembly Libraries

To perform conversions on your device, our site loads open-source WebAssembly binaries (such as FFmpeg and PDF utilities) from verified, secure CDNs. These binaries are integrity-checked with cryptographic hashes (Subresource Integrity), cached in your browser, and run completely offline within your browser’s client-side sandbox.

7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & UK GDPR)

Under European data protection regulations, you have specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access to any personal data processed about you.
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") of your data.
  • Right to restrict or object to the processing of your data.
  • Right to data portability.
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office - ICO).

8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents are entitled to know what personal information is collected, request its deletion, correct inaccuracies, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You can exercise your right to opt out of cross-context behavioral advertising at any time using the opt-out mechanisms detailed in Section 2, through your browser’s Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, or by contacting us directly.

9. Children’s Online Privacy (COPPA)

FreeConvert is a general-audience utility website and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
