Why WebP beats JPG on the web
WebP was designed as a modern replacement for both JPG and PNG. At the same perceived quality it needs roughly 25–35% less space than JPG, and often far less on top of that once resizing is factored in.
- Smaller downloads, faster pages
- No visible quality loss at 90%+
- Transparent PNGs can move here too
Should you keep the JPG?
Yes — treat JPG as the master and WebP as the delivery copy. WebP cannot be opened by some older software, so keep the original for printing, email attachments, and archive purposes.
- WebP for websites and apps
- JPG as the archived master

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert JPG to WebP?
Add your JPG or JPEG files, adjust quality and an optional maximum width under Advanced settings, then click Convert to WebP.
How much smaller will the WebP be?
Usually 25–35% smaller than the JPG at the same visual quality, and considerably smaller once you add a width cap. Photographs with lots of detail shrink less than flat graphics.
Does converting JPG to WebP reduce quality?
Both formats are lossy, so a little data is lost either way. At the default 90% quality the result is visually indistinguishable from the JPG; raise the slider for near-identical output.
Can all browsers display WebP?
Every current browser does, on desktop and mobile. The gap is old software: some print drivers, native desktop apps, and upload forms still expect JPG or PNG.
Can I resize photos while converting?
Yes. Enter a maximum width under Advanced settings and images wider than that are scaled down with high-quality smoothing in the same pass.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
Never. The whole pipeline — decode, resize, encode — runs inside your own browser.
